EXHIBIT by UHasselt Faculteit Architectuur en Kunst: between experimentation and practice
Publication date: 20.05.2026
This exhibition shows how research and design work together towards a more sustainable building practice, and starts from a new way of thinking about material, value, and collaboration. It brings together three research lines, each approaching sustainability and participation from a different perspective: Earth blocks explore how building with earth can serve as a contemporary, local alternative, with attention to technical performance and practical applications. Mycelium explores how materials can be grown instead of produced, and how their sensory and tactile qualities influence the experience of space. The project invites designers to approach material choices also from the perspective of experience and interaction. Urban harvesting shows how reuse and participation lead to new forms of architecture. Materials, places, and communities are brought together in a continuous process of collective transformation.
